Margaret River is not only famed for its unique wine and dining experiences, but it is also a great spot for a family-friendly holiday, no matter the season! Winter is a beautiful time of the year in the region and we have rounded up some fun kid-specific activities to add to your schedule next time you visit the region.

Here’s our top list of things to include in a Winter getaway with kids:

1. Scoops Animal Farm

You can enjoy a delicious gelato in a stunning rural setting amongst farm animals the kids can feed. The area also has a beautiful lawned area and playground/cubby house with a range of toys and kids’ cars. For really wet days, they have an indoor play area where you can feed bunnies, guinea pigs and burn off some energy with soft play and a large indoor sand pit with toy diggers and toy trucks.

2. Ninjas in Mocean

This stunning indoor play and kids Ninja facility is the perfect winter activity. It has a unique multilevel soft playground and a custom-built ninja zone to help facilitate balance, strength and coordination. The play area is the perfect spot to run, jump, tumble and slide away with friends. Conveniently there is also a lovely cafe within the facility that serves up delicious barista coffee, raw treats, cookies, milkshakes and kids’ healthy snack boxes. You can sit and relax with a coffee while your little ones play!

3. White Elephant Cafe

A beautiful beachfront cafe overlooking Gnarabup Beach is perfect for a morning coffee or hot breakfast. In Winter, they put the fireplace on and have a basket of kid toys to keep them occupied while you enjoy a meal. They also offer great options for kids’ meals and drinks. If the sun pops out, Gnarabup beach is a great spot to explore and look for shells, or watch the seagulls wander along the beachfront.

4. Margaret River Chocolate Company

A sweet and cozy activity to add some indulgence to your itinerary! The Margaret River Chocolate company offers free chocolate tastings and has a lovely cafe with indoor and outdoor seating where you can indulge in a lavish hot chocolate or milkshake before buying a couple of treats on your way out. This is also a great one to add to after lunch to keep the kids involved in your day.

5. The Berry Farm

Nestled in the lush green landscapes of Rosa Glen, only fifteen minutes from Margaret River town. You can expect to sample sparkling fruit wines at their cellar door before relaxing at the Cottage Café for a morning tea. The cafe has a smaller, toddler-friendly nature-based playground on one end, and two larger playgrounds on the other side. They also have cows on the property which is always great entertainment for the kids to watch them being fed. Scones with berry jam or the famous pancakes are a must-have when visiting.

6. Swings and Roundabouts

Located outside of Margaret River, closer to Yallingup is this cozy cellar door with expansive lawns and a large kids’ playground. Their rustic food beautifully matches their Mediterranean-style wines and is a wonderful spot to sip on wines and indulge while being able to see your kids play happily on the playground.

7. River Walk and Rotary Park

Rotary Park sits beside the beautiful Margaret River at the town’s northern point. The park is set amongst towering native trees with a footbridge with ducks beneath, two gorgeous playgrounds, and a cafe, and it is the trailhead for a handful of walks including the River Walk which is a short 30-40 minute loop walk that will engage any young mind who loves exploring in nature. For older kids, you can also rent a mountain bike at the Hairy Marron Bike Shop and Cafe.

8. Sea Garden Cafe

A laid-back cafe and restaurant overlooking Prevelly Beach is the perfect spot for a quiet breakfast or lunch or a delicious dinner and sunset bear! With indoor and outdoor seating, this venue is kid and dog-friendly. For busy toddlers, there is a mud kitchen and play area with blocks in an undercover zone. It is also home to the Prevelly surfboard fence, so line up and snap a picture for the memory book!
